Bridgnorth Fact File
Bridgnorth was named after a bridge over the river that was constructed further north
The town is located in the Severn Valley and is split into the Low Town - along the banks of the river - and the High Town, one hundred feet above. The two levels are connected by a funicular railway
Robert de Belesme created the town in 1101, constructing a church and a castle to defend against attacks from Wales
In the early 1960's the RAF initial recruit training unit was based at Bridgnorth
There are many historic buildings in the town, many dating from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The High Street's seventeenth century Town Hall is set on wooden arches and is of particular interest
